Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
Everett AquaSox (10-8 2H, 41-42) starter Jimmy Joyce struck out 13 Viñeros de Tri-City (7-11 2H, 36-44), and Noelvi Marte had a big game as the visitors took a 6-2 victory Thursday night at Gesa Stadium.
The game began as a pitchers' duel for the third straight night. Robinson Piña (6-4) locked in after a leadoff homer by Marte in the 1st inning, striking out nine AquaSox in his first four innings of work.
Everett got to Piña in the 5th inning, plating three runs for a 4-0 lead and knocking the righty out of the game. Despite the loss Piña's punchouts pushed him into triple digits, with the San Cristobal, Dominican Republic native now to a Northwest League-leading 102 strikeouts on the season.
Joyce (4-8) went 5.2 innings, throwing over 100 pitches. The Viñeros loaded the bases in the 6th to push Joyce out of the game, but a strikeout the following at-bat extinguished the threat.
Tri-City would get its two runs in the 7th inning. Jose Guzman singled to lead off the inning and Osmy Gregorio reached on a dropped third strike, putting two on with no one out. D'Shawn Knowles then lined a ball to center field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Guzman and ending the shutout.
Mike Peabody added an RBI single, scoring Gregorio to make it a 6-2 game, but two others were left stranded. The Viñeros left 12 men on base and the AquaSox left ten on.
Kyle Molnar pitched the final two innings without giving up a run, his eighth such consecutive outing.
Game four of the six-game series is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday night at Gesa Stadium. It promises to be a super night for baseball, with the Dust Devils wearing Captain America-themed jerseys for Marvel's Defenders of the Diamond Night. It's also a Family Feast Night thanks to PCA, with $2 hot dogs and $1 bags of chips, ice cream sandwiches and 12 oz. Coca-Cola products available throughout the night.
You can listen to the game beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the King Beverage Budweiser Pregame Show at dustdevilsbaseball.com and the MiLB First Pitch app.
