Victoria to host salmon hunt

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings are proud to announce the 1st Annual Victoria Salmon Kings Salmon Hunt. The Salmon Kings are calling on hundreds of fisherman in the Greater Victoria area to sharpen their hooks and hit the local waters in search of the largest salmon.
The Salmon Hunt will be held on July 23/24, 2005 and the cost for entering the derby is only $50.00 per fishing rod. Fisherman can drop their lines anywhere between Saltspring Island and Sherringham Point in Sooke.
"The Salmon Hunt will give everyone an opportunity to have some fun and catch a big fish. The Salmon Kings are excited to host this event for local fishermen to raise money for the Salmon Kings Foundation and the Hatchery at Goldstream," said Adam Olsen, Communications Coordinator with the Victoria Salmon Kings.
Top prize for the fisherman who nets the largest salmon is $5000.00 while the second and third place finishers will take home $2000.00 and $1000.00 respectively. The Salmon Kings have put forward a pair of Club Seats for 2005-06 season as a mystery weight prize in an effort give everyone a chance to win!
"The Salmon Kings will grow this event over the years and the more people we can involve in the Salmon Hunt the more fish we can return back to the local waters. This will help support the Salmon stocks around Southern Vancouver Island and provide sport fishermen a healthier fishing environment," said Olsen.
Fisherman can fish between daybreak and 6:00 pm on Saturday and daybreak till noon on Sunday. The winner's will be announced at 2:00 pm on Sunday July 24, 2005 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Weigh-in will occur at Pedder Bay Marina before the scale closing times.
