Victoria Seals News Release
Calgary, AB - Returning to Foothills Stadium in search of a third consecutive win, the Victoria Seals matched up against the Calgary Vipers for a double-header matchup on Saturday afternoon. Sending right-hander Andrew Arreola (2-3) to the mound for the start, the Seals squared off against Erik Dessau (2-0) on the hill for the home side.
Posting a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Seals got on the board early with back-to-back singles from Dale Swinford and Terrence McClain before Brian Rios stayed scorching hot with a double to right field, putting Victoria up 2-0.
Answering with a run of their own in the bottom of the frame, Calgary pulled within one when Jorge Mejia picked up a one-out base hit to set up an RBI double off the bat of Julio Ramirez.
After three scoreless innings, Victoria restored their two-run advantage with the help of a lead-off single from Wilver Perez and a run-scoring double courtesy of Terrence McClain for a 3-1 lead. Not to be outdone, the Vipers responded by scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly before catcher Matt Kavanaugh survived a collision at the plate with Drew Miller, keeping his team on top headed to the seventh.
Turning to closer Brandon Villafuerte, the Seals capped off a second-straight 3-2 win at Foothills Stadium after a nifty diving play from Dale Swinford in the seventh. With the win, Victoria improved their record to 4-1 in double-header situations this season.
Seals starter Andrew Arreola improved to 3-3 on the season with the win, while Erik Dessau took the loss for Calgary. Terrence McClain registered three hits for Victoria, but another pair of runs batted in from Brian Rios paced the way for the Seals.

Turning around for the series finale and second half of the double header, the Victoria Seals turned to Anthony Pluta (0-0) for the start while facing off against Marcus McKenzie (0-0) on the mound for the home side.
Finding an early lead once again, the Seals jumped out to an 1-0 advantage in the top of the first when a two-out double from Terrence McClain converted with the help of an RBI base hit from Josh Arhart.
Stretching their lead to 3-0 in the second frame, Victoria posted a run by loading the bases on a hit-by-pitch to Kyle Orr along with a walk to Wilver Perez and a single from Dale Swinford before a sacrifice fly from McClain cashed the lead-off runner. Perez then broke for home on a pick-off move from McKenzie, becoming to first Seal to ever steal home along with scoring the second run of the inning for Victoria.
Victoria then blew the game open in the top of the third inning. Using three straight singles from Brian Rios, Colin Moro and Chris Van Rossum to add another run, the Seals went on to load the bases ahead of an error from Calgary first basemen Brent Metheny that made it 6-0 Victoria. Before the frame was over, the Seals got an RBI base hit from Perez and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Arhart to grab a commanding 8-0 advantage.
With Anthony Pluta still cruising on the mound, Victoria padded their lead by another run in the top of the sixth frame, scoring a lead-off double from Josh Arhart on an RBI single from Shane Cronin to go up 9-0. Answering back to break up the Seals shutout bid in the bottom of the frame, Calgary used a run-scoring double courtesy of Drew Miller to get on the board.
Despite allowing an RBI triple from Mejia in the bottom of the seventh, Kyle Wilson stepped onto the mound to pick up where Pluta left off, retiring the side for Victoria and sealing a fourth-straight Seals win with a 9-2 final score.
Anthony Pluta earns his first win of the year with a dominant performance on the mound, while Vipers starter Marcus McKenzie takes the loss. A 2-for-4, two runs batted in outing from Calgary native Colin Moro led the way offensively in the Seals biggest win of the season, while two hits from Jorge Mejia provided the lone highlight for the Vipers.
