Chicago Bandits News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - The Chicago Bandits and GM Aaron M. Moore announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with pitcher Michelle Gascoigne for the 2016 season.
The upcoming 2016 season marks the fourth year for the Benicia, Calif. native in a Bandits uniform. Through her first three seasons in orange and black, the two-time All-NPF pitcher has recorded a career record of 18-10 with two saves. In 2015 Gascoigne posted a record of 6-5 last year with a 3.06 ERA, including a career-high of 65 strikeouts. Her six wins were good for second overall on the team, and she held opponents to a .235 batting average, which was third lowest overall on the Bandits.
"Michelle has been a very important part of our ballclub for the last three seasons," said Moore. "She is a legit number one pitcher and is a wonderful complement to the rest of our staff. Her ability to come in and get a big out in relief, as well as put us in position to win games as a starter make her incredibly valuable.
"She is ultra-competitive and typically pitches her best in big games! We're excited to have her back on board for the 2016 season and look forward to watching her regain her All-NPF form!"
Gascoigne's experience in the circle as a Women's College World Series Champion with Oklahoma in 2013 brought an added boost the Bandits during the 2015 Championship Series, as she helped them clinch game two of the semi-finals with a solid six inning effort to defeat the Akron Racers 5-2. The Bandits would eventually go on to defeat the USSSA Pride in two games for their third Cowles Cup Championship in franchise history.
"I'm excited to be back for my fourth season as a Bandit and I'm looking forward to another special year in 2016 with my teammates and coaches," said Gascoigne. "This organization is a family and we get to play in front of the best fans in the NPF!"
Gascoigne, 24, is currently in her first season as the pitching coach for the Northwestern University softball team in Evanston, Ill.
The defense of the Cowles Cup begins on Thursday, June 2 when the Bandits host the Scrap Yard Dawgs at the Ballpark at Rosemont for the 2016 home opener. Single-game tickets for all 2016 home games, including the home opener, will go on sale Monday, February 8 at 10 a.m.
