Montpelier, VT - The Vermont Mountaineers will have one player representing them with Team NECBL as the New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Stars take on Team USA at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. on Monday, June, 27th at noon.
Brett Johnson (Little Elm, TX/TCU) was named to the squad the league announced on Wednesday. He is part of a 28 man roster that includes players from all 12 NECBL Teams along with 22 different colleges.
Johnson, who just finished his freshman year with the Horned Frogs, has played multiple positions already this season for Vermont including first base, second base, and third base. He is hitting .182 with 1 HR and 4 RBI in just six games played. Johnson's biggest contribution came in Connecticut against the Mystic Schooners on Thursday June 16th when he broke up a combined no-hitter in the top of the eighth inning with a three-run homerun.
The last time Team NECBL played the USA Collegiate Team was in 2009 in Manchester, NH. The U.S. won that game 4-1 thanks to current Red Sox prospect Bryce Brentz.
