
Vermont Sweeps Doubleheader against Upper Valley, 10-6 & 5-2

Game 1
Hartford, VT- The bats came alive for the Mountaineers early in game one of a day-night double header vs. Upper Valley. After loading the bases with no outs, Nate Grys (Sterling Heights, MI/ Western Michigan) promptly unloaded them with a grand slam, his fourth homerun of the year, giving Vermont the quick 4-0 lead. Back to back doubles from Ronald Medina (Bronx, NY/ Keystone) and Nolan Tressler (Statesboro, GA/ Georgia Southern) and a single from Trae Hall (Lenoir City, TN/ Motlow State) pushed the lead to 6-0.
Upper Valley would chip away off Vermont starter Brian Herrmann (Northport, NY/ Stony Brook), who exited the game in the in the top of the sixth inning with a 6-5 lead. He went 5+ innings, giving up . Indigo Diaz (North Vancouver, BC/ Michigan State) would settle the game, and would hand the ball off to Ryan Leckich in the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, Vermont broke out for four more runs, pushing the lead to 10-5. Medina would single and Liam McGill (Wakefield, RI/ Columbia) would walk. After advancing on a wild pitch, Tressler would double down the left field line, scoring both. Hall would follow that with a double of his own, scoring Tressler. Trae would later score on a RBI groundout by Bryce Kelley (Rockford, MI/ Michigan State).
Leckich would give up one run in the seventh, but would bear down and strand runners on first and second. Herrmann picked up the win, and Levi Thomas (Cullman, AL/ Troy) took the loss for Upper Valley, only lasting two innings, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits.
Game 2
The Mountaineers would also strike first in the nightcap of the doubleheader, doing it three innings later than game one. In the top of the fourth, Grys would lead off with a walk. Following a single and a fielder's choice, Samuel Duran (Melbourne, FL/ Nova Southeastern) would double into left center, scoring Grys and Tressler. Duran would move to third on a wild pitch, and score on a bunt by Tanner Gallman (Calhoun, GA/ Georgia State).
The Mountaineers last two runs came in the top of the seventh, via Grys. After Chase Achuff (St. Petersburg, FL/ Eckerd) and Brett Malm (Medford, NY/ Adelphi) reached, Grys tripled to right center, scoring both runners, giving Vermont the 5-0 lead.
John Cain would throw six solid innings for the Mountaineers, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out four. Zach Lutner (East Northport, NY/ Villanova) would come in after Cain allowed two runners to reach in the bottom of the seventh. He would allow both runs to score, but closed out the game, giving Vermont the 5-2 lead.
Vermont (13-18) moves up to eight back of first place Valley (21-0), and only five games back of Sanford (17-12), who currently hold the third and final playoff spot. The Mountaineers are right back in action Monday, as they host North Adams, the makeup date for the game rained out on Saturday, July 14th. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30, and can be heard on CBS Sports 1240, or online via the NECBL Broadcast Network.
