BURLINGTON, VT --- The Expos rallied from a 7-0 deficit to tie the game 8-8 in the the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Tri-City ValleyCats scored four unearned runs in the top of the ninth off reliever Warmar Gomez for a 12-8 victory over Vermont in New York-Penn League action Tuesday night at Centennial Field.

Tri-City jumped out to the 7-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings, then scored five runs off Expos starter Craig Stammen in the fourth. The Expos got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and then scored four more runs in the sixth to cut the deficit to 7-5.

After Tri-City added a run in the top of the eighth, Vermont scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 8-8. Mark Ori led off the ninth for Tri-City with a single and was safe at second on a Matt Cunningham grounder to third when Expos second baseman Eduardo Nunez dropped the throw from third baseman Leonard Davis.

That error opened the gates for Tri-City to score the four unearned runs. Gomez did get the first out when he knocked down Ori at third on a sacrifice bunt attempt, but Jose Lopez doubled home the game-winning run, James Cooper added an insurance run with a suicide squeeze bunt and Eric King put the game away with a two-run double to left center.

Neil Patrick Harris, who entered the game as the league's leading hitter with a .366 batting average, went 4-for-6 with a run and two RBI for Tri-City. King was 2-for-6 with three RBI, while Lopez was 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, one triple and two RBI.

Tri-City starter Cliff Davis allowed just one hit over five innings, the second straight night that a ValleyCat starter allowed just one hit to the Expos. Ryan McKeller limited Vermont to one hit over seven innings in Tri-City's 5-1 win over the Expos on Monday.

German Melendez (7-0) came on in the bottom of the ninth and walked in two inherited runners to tie the game, but then struckout Leonard Davis with the bases loaded to end the inning and then picked up his seventh relief win in 13 appearances when Tri-City (28-26) won the game in the ninth.

Mike Daniel was 2-for-3 with one run, one double and three RBI for Vermont (18-37), which has now lost six straight games for the second time this season. Francisco Plasencia was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI, while Leonard Davis was 0-for-5 to snap a nine-game hitting streak.

Vermont will try and salvage one game in this five-game series with Tri-City on Wednesday night as the Expos host the ValleyCats at Centennial Field at 7:05 p.m. on "Hot Dog Heaven" Night. Hot Dogs will be on sale for 25-cents with a limit of four hot dogs per purchase.
