Vermont 5-Game Win Streak Snapped With 4-3 Loss

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - In a rematch of the 2017 New York-Penn League championship series, the Hudson Valley Renegades broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Vermont Lake Monsters 4-3 Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Vermont, which had outscored its opponents 26-12 during the win streak dating back to an 11-1 opening-night loss at Tri-City.

Vermont's Brady Feigl pitched the first inning in his professional debut, allowing two runs to Hudson Valley on a walk, RBI double and RBI single. The 2018 fifth-round pick out of the University of Mississippi product also had a strikeout in his lone inning of work.

Vermont got a run back in the second as Alfonso Rivas led off with a single and advanced to third on a Payton Squier double. One out later, Devin Foyle (17th-round from University of Kansas) plated Rivas with a sacrifice fly in his first pro at bat.

The Lake Monsters trailed 3-1 when they scored single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie game. Aaron Arruda doubled and later scored on a throwing error in the fifth, while Jameson Hannah led off the sixth with a single and scored on a Robert Mullen two-out double tying the game 3-3.

The Renegades got a leadoff single and double putting runners on second and third to start the bottom of the eighth. Vermont'ss Slater Lee (1-1) got a strikeout for the first out and a grounder to third baseman Max Schuemann, but Tanner Dodson was able to score from third base during a rundown with the go ahead run.

Jack Labosky (1-0) retired the Lake Monsters 1-2-3 in the ninth inning to earn the victory with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, while Dodson was 2-for-3 with two runs for Hudson Valley (4-3). Vermont reliever Jose Mora allowed one unearned run on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over six innings.

Squier went 3-for-4 on the night and is now hitting .500 (9-for-18) for the season, including 8-for-11 (.727) over his last three games. Arruda was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored for the Lake Monsters, who play at Hudson Valley again on Friday starting at 7:05 pm.
