Muckdogs Game Notes
June 21, 2018 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Batavia Muckdogs News Release
Today's Game- Batavia starts the second segment of their opening homestand against Williamsport (Phillies). This is the first game of the three game series against the Crosscutters, and then Batavia goes back on the road to State College.
That was yesterday- Gerardo Nunez ripped his first homerun of the season in a losing effort. A three run third inning for the Black Bears would get West Virginia in front, and an extra run in the fifth would be all they need. The Nunez homerun made it 4-3. Ryan McKay went 3 strong innings in relief and struck out five.
Offense Overload- In four of the last five games, Batavia has managed to score at least six runs in each of those contests. Batavia has some of the top scorers in the league, with Jerar Encarnacion and Ricardo Cespedes each crossing the plate 6 times this season.
Exploding Encarnacion- Jerar Encarnacion has been on a tear to start of the season. On his current six game hit streak to open the year, he's hitting .423. He leads the league in hits (11), RBI (8) and sits fourth with his .423 average.
Same Skipper- Calling the shots this season will be second year manager Mike Jacobs. Jacobs spent seven years in the bigs with Mets, Marlins, Royals, and the Diamondbacks. He clubbed 100 HR's in his MLB career, 32 of which came in 2008 with the Florida Marlins. He also tacked on 93 RBI's that year. His first year as a manager in Batavia saw the team go 30-45.
Some Superlatives- This year's players come in all shapes and sizes. The tallest being Sean Reynolds who towers at 6'7". The shortest five check in at 5'11". The youngest Muckdog is Dakota Bennett who is currently 18, and the oldest on the roster is Logan Boyd who is 24.
Cutters Cutting Town- This is one of only two times that Williamsport will make their way to Dwyer Stadium this season. The other visit comes August 23-25. Batavia does make a trip to central Pennsylvania from July 17-19.
Recent Roster Action- OF Brayan Hernandez was added to the Batavia roster on June 20th.
Marlins Update- Miami's late heroics fell just short against San Fransisco on Wednesday night. The fish were down three going into the ninth, but were only able to get two runs to cross the plate. Former Muckdogs Brian Anderson went 3-5 in the losing effort.
