The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) announced today that Rivermen center Garrett Vermeersch has been named the Easton Player of the Week for December 16-22.

Vermeersch scored four goals, two on the power play, and added four assists as the Rivermen took two of three games from Bloomington this past weekend.

On Friday, the Macomb, MI native celebrated his 24th birthday in style by scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and adding an assist in a 6-2 win over the Thunder. Vermeersch came back on Saturday with a four-point night, scoring one goal and setting up three others in a 6-3 win over the Thunder. He closed out the weekend by scoring Peoria's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Bloomington on Sunday.

Vermeersch, who played four seasons for Northeastern University, currently leads all SPHL rookies with 13 goals and seven power-play assists. He also ranks second in power-play goals (4) and is third in rookie points (24).
