HARLINGEN - United League Baseball announced today that third baseman Leivi Ventura (6-2, 240) has been named Most Valuable Player as voted on by the field managers and communications executives from each team.

Additionally, WildWing was named Mascot of the Year while WhiteWings Director of Communications Jonah Goldberg earned co-Broadcaster of the Year honors.

Overall, Ventura hit .326 with 24 home runs and 84 RBI in 93 games with the WhiteWings and Coastal Bend Thunder. In 22 games after joininh the WhiteWings in a trade, Ventura hit .424 (36-for-85) with eight home runs and 20 RBI while helping the WhiteWings to clinch their first playoff berth since 2007. Ventura finish tied for second in the league in home runs and led the league in runs batted in. He was also the only player to compete in 93 games. Ventura finished fifth in runs scored (76), fifth in total hits (121), first in total bases (217), tied for second in extra-base hits (46), fourth in slugging percentage (.585) and third in times hit by a pitch (15).

Goldberg is in his fourth season as "The Voice of the WhiteWings" and now has 814 career-broadcasts under his belt, including 347 with the WhiteWings. Before joining the WhiteWings, Goldberg was a broadcaster for the Hyannis Mets (Cape Cod Baseball League) during the summer of 2006. Originally from Merrick, New York, the Boston University College of Communication graduate now resides in McAllen and is also the full-time Director of Communications for the 2010 NBA Development League Champion Rio Grande Valley Vipers. It is the second consecutive year Goldberg, who is also a two-time San Angelo Standard Times United League Baseball All-Star Broadcaster, has been honored by the league as Broadcaster of the Year. This year, Goldberg shares the honor with "The Voice of the San Angelo Colts," Ira Liebman.
