Amarillo Gorillas News Release
Amarillo, TX 4/9/10- The Amarillo Venom, the only undefeated team in the Intense Conference, seek a 4-0 start this Saturday, April 10th at 7pm CST in the Amarillo Civic Center versus the Corpus Christi Hammerheads.
Amarillo (3-0) destroyed the Austin Turf Cats last Friday night 71-20. The score was the largest margin of victory in the IFL this season (second most all-time in the IFL's Intense Conference Lone Star Division and sixth in Intense Conference history). Quarterback Julian Reese won the league's "Offensive Player of the Week Award" Wednesday for his seven touchdown performance. The Venom defense has shown they are a crew to be feared in the IFL, accumulating 13 turnovers (11 interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries) over three games. Defensive backs Cashmin Thomas and Kevin Patterson are tied for the team lead in interceptions with four a piece.
Corpus Christi (2-3) has lost the first two contests on their current five-game road trip (season long) and are seeking their first road win of the 2010 campaign in Amarillo Saturday. Wide receiver Brandon Hussey has earned back-to-back 100-yard receiving games and leads the Hammerheads in receptions (28), receiving yards (316), receiving touchdowns (6), and all-purpose yards (340). The Venom defense will look to take advantage of Corpus Christi's miscues, as the Hammerheads are averaging 4 turnovers and 58.2 penalty yards a game through five tilts this season.
Amarillo Venom Quarterback Julian Reese on what the biggest difference is between last season's team to this season's squad: "It's been our work ethic and we're not taking a play off. No one is selfish and there is a good mixture of run and pass on offense to keep the opposition of balance."
The Venom is offering 4 show tickets and 4 Venom t-shirts for only $60 for this Saturday's game! Call 806-350-PASS (7277).
