Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, OH – The Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League continued with their aggressive free agent acquisitions on Wednesday, re-signing quarterback Ryan Vena and offensive/defensive lineman Jamarr Ward to contract extensions.

Vena (6-0, 220, Colgate) has emerged as the leader of the Destroyers as a rookie at the quarterback position in 2004. In 13 games this season, Vena has completed 217-of-340 passes for 2,858 yards and 54 touchdowns with eight interceptions. His 120.1 quarterback rating is currently third in the AFL with one regular season contest remaining. He also leads the Destroyers in rushing, having carried the ball 60 times for 218 yards with 11 rushing touchdowns. His 218 yards rushing this season is a single-season franchise record and leave him only six yards away from becoming the franchise's all-time leading rusher (223, David White).

Ward (6-4, 340, Morningside College) is in his third season in the AFL and was originally awarded to the Destroyers off waivers on April 29. Ward made an immediate impact after joining the Destroyers late in the year, registering 2.5 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in his first game with the team on May 9 versus Georgia. In three games with Columbus this season, Ward has recorded seven tackles (six solo), two sacks and one forced fumble.

The Destroyers travel to Las Vegas to face the Gladiators in their season finale on Sunday, May 30 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Kickoff has been moved to 6 p.m. (ET) from its original 4 p.m. (ET) start time.
