Veltman named Overall Player of the Week; Doyle, Eliuk and Ward also honored

The National Lacrosse League announced that Toronto Rock forward and team captain Jim Veltman captured the Overall Player of the Week Award for Week #14. Veltman led the Rock on both ends of the floor in two victories over the Buffalo Bandits during the home and home weekend series between the two clubs on March 26-27. The two wins clinched the East Division Championship and a first-round bye for the Rock. Veltman totaled one goal and eleven assists for twelve points, and picked up 21 loose balls in the two wins. In a 14-11 win over Buffalo on Friday, Veltman scored one goal and added four assists for five points and collected twelve loose balls. On Saturday, Veltman tallied seven assists and scooped up nine loose balls in a 15-9 win.

Colin Doyle of the Toronto Rock captured the Offensive Player of the Week award for Week #14. Doyle led the Rock scoring in two victories over the Buffalo Bandits this weekend totaling six goals, eight assists, 14 points, and ten loose balls. In a 14-11 win over Buffalo on Friday, Doyle scored four goals and added two assists for four points, and collected three loose balls. In a 15-9 win over the Bandits on Saturday, Doyle scored four goals and added six assists for ten points and collected seven loose balls.

Dallas Eliuk of the Philadelphia Wings earned the Defensive Player of the Week Honors for Week #14. Eliuk allowed eight goals and made 43 saves and collected two loose balls in Philadelphia's 12-8 victory over the Knighthawks. The win kept the Wings playoff hopes alive as a loss would have eliminated them from playoff contention.

Ryan Ward of the Philadelphia Wings captured Rookie of the Week honors for Week #14. Ward scored two goals and added two assists for four points, including the game winning goal in the Wings 12-8 victory over the Knighthawks. Ward also collected four loose balls in the victory.

Week #14 Award Winners

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Colin Doyle (Toronto) (6G, 8A, 14pts, 10LB, in two games played) scored two goals and added two assists for four points and collected three loose balls in a 14-11 win over Buffalo on Friday. Doyle also scored four goals and added six assists for ten points and collected seven loose balls in a 15-9 win over Buffalo on Saturday. The two wins clinched the East Division for the Rock.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Dallas Eliuk (Philadelphia) (43 saves, 8GA, 2LB) made 43 saves, allowed eight goals, and collected two loose balls in a 12-8 victory over Rochester. The win keeps the Wings alive for the final East Division playoff spot.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Ryan Ward (Philadelphia) (2G, 2A, 4pts, 4LB, GWG) scored two goals and added two assists for four points in a 12-8 victory over Rochester. Ward also scored the game-winning goal and collected four loose balls for the Wings. The win keeps Philadelphia alive for the last East Division playoff spot.

OVERALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jim Veltman (Toronto) (1G, 11A, 12pts, 21LB in two games played) collected 12 loose balls and scored one goal and four assists for five points in a 14-11 win over Buffalo on Friday. Veltman also collected nine loose balls and totaled seven assists in a 15-9 win over Buffalo on Saturday. The two wins clinched the East Division for the East.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs.
