Montgomery Biscuits News Release

BILOXI, Mis. - The Biscuits (14-13) clawed their way back from a 4-1 deficit in the seventh inning on Friday night to defeat the Biloxi Shuckers 5-4 at MGM Park.

Mike Franco got the start for Montgomery, and after a Taylor Williams wild pitch gave the Biscuits an early 1-0 lead, the league-leader in ERA would serve up back-to-back Biloxi solo homers to Michael Reed and Art Charles in the second to put the Shuckers in front 2-1.

In the third, Charles was at it again, this time with a sac fly to make it a 3-1 game. In the sixth, Javier Betancourt would take Edwin Fierro (3-0) deep for another solo blast to increase the Biloxi lead to three.

But then in the seventh, Michael Russell would lead off the inning with a double, and Andrew Velazquez would knock him in with an RBI-single. After Braxton Lee walked, Grant Kay would slam an RBI-single of his own up the middle to score Velazquez to cut the deficit to one. A few batters later, Justin O'Conner would swat a game-tying sac fly into deep right-center field to score Lee and even things up at four.

In the eighth, Biloxi reliever Forrest Snow walked Nathan Lukes after getting Cade Gotta to groundout. Then, after striking out Russell, Velazquez slashed a two-out opposite field RBI-ground-rule-double to hand the Biscuits the lead for good at 5-4. Newcomer Yoel Espinal, who was just sent down from Durham yesterday, pitched two shutout innings for a two-inning save and a dream Biscuit debut as Montgomery climbed above .500 again.

The Biscuits will try to force a rubber match on Saturday when Jose Mujica (1-1) clashes with Luis Ortiz (0-3) at 6:35 PM.
