July 3, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Walla Walla Sweets News Release
Walla Walla, WASH- The Walla Walla Sweets (15-12) dropped the third game of the series to the Yakima Valley Pippins (15-11) by a score of 5-1. The Pippins took the lead in the fifth inning on an RBI single. It was the only run allowed by Easton Lucas (Pepperdine) in his first loss of the season. Yakima Valley added two more in the seventh. The Sweets have given up 24 runs in the seventh inning this year, more than any other inning. Two more runs crossed the plate for Yakima Valley in the eighth to make it 5-0, but the Sweets would answer with a run in the bottom half of the eighth inning on an RBI groundout by Coby Kauhaahaa (Cal State Fullerton). Gavin Velasquez (Cal State Fullerton) was brilliant for the Pippins, throwing a complete game and just surrendering one run against the Sweets. The loss is the eighth for the Sweets at home in 15 games. The club is 8-4 on the road, which is where they head next. Walla Walla will take on the Gresham GreyWolves in the first of a six-game road trip. The Sweets will send Jackson Weeg (Emory) to the mound for game one tomorrow with first pitch slated for 5:05 pm.
