Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI - Wednesday morning the United States Hockey League started announcing it's end of season awards with the All-USHL teams. Three Lumberjacks earned end of season honors thanks to a strong season in Muskegon.

Xavier Veilleux - USHL All-Rookie First Team

Some players want all of the attention. They are constantly on the score sheet, scoring goals, and making highlight reel plays. Xavier Veilleux found that same success but did it quietly.

His 32 points led the Lumberjacks defenseman and ranked first in the USHL among rookie defensemen as well. With a +21 rating Veilleux was top five on the Jacks and led all USHL rookies.

While on the ice Veilleux was a top defenseman in the league, and he was on the ice a lot. Veilleux was one of just 3 Lumberjacks to play in all 62 games this season, and 3 rookies in the USHL to do so.

When asked about Veilleux head coach Parker Burgess said "There are not many 2006 birth years that have as many responsibilities and trust as Xavier. His dedication to his development both on and off the ice paints a clear picture as to why he's earned this award. We are very fortunate to have Xavier as a member of the Lumberjacks family and are extremely proud of what he accomplished this season".

Matvei Gridin - All-USHL First Team

The USHL league leader in points through the regular season Gridin picked up 83 points on 38 goals and 45 assists. While he was the top of the league in points Gridin was the only player in the USHL to finish top five in all of goals, assists, and points.

His 83-point season ranks second all time for the Lumberjacks. Only Rem Pitlick (2015-2016) has scored more points in a single season with 89 before hearing his name called at the 2016 NHL Draft.

Coach Burgess shared his thoughts on Matvei as well. "People were shocked by how quickly Matvei got hot at the start of the season, but no one in our office was. Knowing how hard Matvei works it is not a shock to see how much success he has found, and how much success he is going to find. The All-USHL First team is a huge accomplishment and Matvei should be just as proud of himself as we are in him".

Sacha Boisvert - All-USHL Third Team

One of the highest ranked skaters in the USHL, Boisvert lived up to the hype all season long for the Lumberjacks. It's not an easy task to drown out the noise and focus on the game, but Sacha found a way not just to handle it, but to thrive too. A top 10 scorer in the USHL Boisvert finished with 68 points this season including 36 goals. As a Lumberjack Sacha finished this season with 53 goals good for 3rd all-time in Muskegon.

Closing up the conversation Coach Burgess spoke about Boisvert's season. "Sacha has always been a talented hockey player. He has the stick, the size, the shot, and the compete level. His commitment to develop not just those skills, but also others to round out his game has impressed everyone on our staff. We are so proud of everything Sacha has accomplished this season."
