Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - Steelheads General Manager and Head Coach, James Richmond announced that the club has come to terms with 3rd round pick, Zander Veccia on a Standard Player Agreement and Education Package. The 43rd overall pick becomes the fourth member of the 2020 Steelheads Draft Class to sign with the hockey club.
"We are very pleased to announce the signing of Zander Veccia," comments Richmond. "He plays the game hard every shift and will look really good in the blue and white. Zander is a very strong 200' winger. His hockey IQ is very high and knows where to be in all three zones on the ice. He's a character guy that will be a good fit in our dressing room. We are pleased to welcome Zander and his family to the Steelheads family."
In 29 games with the Alliance-leading Elgin Middlesex Chiefs, the London-native found the back of the net 20 times while adding 26 helpers for a total of 46 points. In 16 playoff games for the Chiefs, Veccia added 18 points, including 11 goals and 7 assists.
"The organization has been amazing since Draft Day," says Veccia. "I'm really excited to make things official today and look forward to getting started with the team. I'd like to thank my parents, Andy Paquette from Powertech and Dwayne Blais from TPH along with my Elgin Coaches for getting me ready for the next level."
With today's signing, Zander becomes the second member of the Veccia household to join the OHL family. His father, Robert Veccia was an 11th round pick of Windsor in 1982 and skated in a total of 171 OHL games with the Spitfires and the Greyhounds.
