Veal Clobbers the Biscuits, 2-1

Montgomery, AL- The Tennessee Smokies (57-72, 30-29) rode the arm of Donnie Veal to a win over the Montgomery Biscuits (66-62, 32-26) 2-1, at Riverwalk Stadium Thursday night in front of 3,985.

The Smokies loaded the bases in the sixth inning and score first. Josh Lansford doubled to start the inning and later touched home on a Jake Fox groundout.

Erold Andrus slammed a two-out seventh inning solo homerun for Montgomery tying the score at one.

Tennessee went ahead again in the eighth inning. Sam Fuld singled and moved past second to third on a throwing error by pitcher Steve Andrade. Matt Camp followed with a hot smash to first which was missed by Rhyne Hughes and Fuld scored.

Donnie Veal (9-5) collected the win going 7 innings allowing just 4 hits and one run. He walked one batter but strikeout eight. The win for Veal was his first since June 17th.

Rocky Roquet helped hold down the Biscuits with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Then Casey Lambert (S-1) grabbed the save as he pitched the final two-thirds of the ninth.

The Smokies will return home to face the Carolina Mudcats in a five game series from August 23rd through 27th. The team returns home Saturday, August 23, playing the last regular season homestand of the year, against the Chattanooga Lookouts.
