Mat Gamel is one of the five finalists and is currently a distant third in the voting. There have been just over 3500 votes and if all the Stars fans and their family members logged in, I'm betting we could even things up quickly enough. You know that what the other players teams and families are doing.

OK, Huntsville Stars fans, we have just under a week left in our home season and in our Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser. The North Alabama MDA tasked us to raise $2,600 for this year's Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon. You have responded in a first class way by getting out total up to $3,355. I can't thank you enough for pushing us over the top! Today we received a mailer from the MDA showing us in first place of all the local donors, a thousand bucks ahead of the next closest jailbird. We know that this fundraiser will be like Chicago politics where people will vote early and often; we expect those trailing us on the list to bust out some last second donations to try to take the lead. We want to stay in first place, so here's what we're going to do: the good folks from Cabinet NG, the official sponsor of the World Record First Pitch ceremony on Saturday, have given us permission to auction off the final first pitch baseball, the one that will actually become the new world record...100% of those funds from the ball auction will go into our MDA fundraiser courtesy of Cabinet NG.

Additionally, for those that haven't donated thus far, here's what you're missing out on: -You will receive free tickets to the Stars final home game on the 27th. The donor list will be at the Will Call window. Simply tell the nice lady at the window your name and show her your ID and you'll receive your game tickets. -Once inside the gates donors will stop by a table across from the team store. There you will pick up your raffle tickets for the pre-game drawing. If you can't make it to the game, you will be notified if you're the winner. One randomly selected raffle ticket will be worth a four-pack of 2009 Huntsville Stars season tickets, a $1580 value. We do have some consolation prizes as well, including an Orlando Magic team autographed basketball, etc. -Helping out local Muscular Dystrophy victims in their day-to-day fight against this crippling disease.

Fans, you can donate as little as a couple bucks. We're not asking for anything but your spare change that is lying around the house, on your kitchen counter, in the change jar on your dresser, etc. That spare change gets you some freebie tickets for the last Stars home game and entries for your chance to win big on next season's tickets! That donation is tax-deductible! This is a no-brainer!
