The Vancouver Giants earned their first shutout of the season, defeating the Everett Silvertips 3-0 Sunday night in front of 5,735 fans. Mark Segal made 25 saves for the shutout, picking up his 5th win of the year.
Vancouver opened the scoring on the power play as Michael Burns found the back of the net for his 4th goal of the year. Later in the opening frame, with a 5-on-3 advantage, Neil Manning blasted home his 6th of the year to give the Giants a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes of play.
Playing 4-on-4 hockey in the second period, Matt MacKay tipped in a Manning point shot for his 7th of the season to give the hometeam a 3-0 lead.
Segal shut the door the rest of the way, making 8 saves in the final frame to secure his first shutout of the season and 4th of his WHL career. 3-0 was the final.
Vancouver is back in action Wednesday night when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and the Red Deer Rebels pay a visit to the Pacific Coliseum. Game time is 7:00pm. Pregame show starts at 6:30pm on AM 650. The game will also be televised on Shaw TV.
