Vancouver Giants News Release

Vancouver, B.C. - The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE) and the Vancouver Giants today announce that the iconic Pacific Coliseum will be hosting the Vancouver Giants for two of the team's largest games of the 2018-2019 regular season at the "Rink on Renfrew" on December 1st and December 8th.

The game on December 1st against the Tri City Americans will celebrate Hockey Memories at the Pacific Coliseum, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the iconic venue. A number of significant Pacific Coliseum hockey highlights will be celebrated this night, including its place as the original home of the Vancouver Canucks (1970); the 1972 Canada-Russia series; the 1977 New Westminster Bruins Memorial Cup team; the 1982 and 1994 Stanley Cup Finals runs by the Canucks; the original home of the Vancouver Giants (2001/02) and the thrilling 2007 Vancouver Giants Memorial Cup victory.

The game on December 8th against the Victoria Royals will host the beloved annual Chevrolet Teddy Bear Toss, where fans are asked to bring stuffed animals to the game, or purchase one at the venue, with the toys and monetary proceeds going to underprivileged children across BC.

Besides the excitement of the toss, (when the Giants score their first goal, fans are asked to throw their teddy bears onto the ice), event organizers have a few tricks up their sleeves planned to celebrate the occasion, so guests are encouraged to arrive in advance of the 7:00pm puck drop.

"As the inaugural home of the Vancouver Giants, the PNE is excited to welcome the Giants back for two major games this December," says Shelley Frost, CEO of the Pacific National Exhibition. "The Pacific Coliseum has played a huge roll in the history of the Vancouver Giants and they have been an important part of our history and we're thrilled to welcome them "home" for the holidays! We encourage hockey fans of all ages to come out and support the team."

Team owner Ron Toigo says playing back at the Coliseum in this milestone year is exciting for the team.

"The Pacific Coliseum was our first home, and we can think of no better way to celebrate its 50th anniversary than to host two of our biggest events at the arena where it all started for our franchise," says Toigo.

Tickets to the December 1st and 8th games at the Pacific Coliseum go on sale October 17th at 10:00am. To purchase visit: www.ticketleader.ca.
