Valour FC Draws Atlético Ottawa, 1-1

Atletico Ottawa News Release
Atlético Ottawa completed a busy first week back in competitive action in 2023 with a trip out to Winnipeg as they clashed with Valour FC. Games between these two sides were tight affairs last season and Saturday's match proved no different as Head Coach Carlos González's side came from behind to earn a hard-fought point.
KEY MOMENTS
Atlético Ottawa remains undefeated in their opening two games of the Canadian Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Valour FC.
Atleti faced an early setback as Diego Gutiérrez headed Valour in front after four minutes.
The visitors grew into the game though and drew level as Gianni dos Santos levelled the score just after the half-hour mark with a low left-footed effort that went in off the post.
Dos Santos' goal was his first since joining Ottawa during the off-season, adding to his assist in midweek.
Jean-Aniel Assi spurned a great opportunity to give Atlético the lead on the stroke of half-time but was unable to turn in Abou Sacko's cross from close range.
An even encounter petered out in the latter stages of the contest as both sides seemed to suffer from the fatigue of three games in the opening seven days.
González made three changes to the side that started at home against Halifax Wanderers last weekend.
Atlético Ottawa had more shots on target (4) and more big chances (2) than their opponents.
Ottawa had to play without their talismanic midfielder Ollie Bassett who was forced off with an injury in the early stages of their midweek victory over Halifax Wanderers in the Canadian Championship.
On a more positive note, however, Zach Verhoven made his first appearance of the season coming off the bench in the second period.
González's team now has a full week of preparation ahead before taking on York United at TD Place on Saturday, April 29, 2023 (KO 5 pm ET, live on OneSoccer).
