ValleyCats' Greenwalt Named 2008 Greeneville Astros MVP

TROY, N.Y. - On Wednesday, August 27, the Houston Astros named Kyle Greenwalt the 2008 Greeneville Astros Most Valuable Player for his exceptional season with the Rookie level team. Greenwalt is one of the newest members of the ValleyCats, having been promoted to Tri-City on Tuesday with Greeneville teammates Jordan Lyles and Pedro Gonzalez.

Greenwalt, 19, was the Houston Astros 20th round selection in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. He started a team-high 13 games for Greeneville, including the Opening Day nod against Kingsport. His six wins led the team and were tied for third in the Appalachian League. Greenwalt compiled an ERA of 3.14 with 53 strikeouts to just 15 walks. The highlight of Greenwalt's season came in mid-July when he notched wins in back-to-back starts without allowing a run and just six hits in 12 innings.

New ValleyCats catcher Pedro Gonzalez was also honored on Wednesday as the recipient of the 4th Annual Oscar Padron Award. The Oscar Padron Award is given to an Astros player each year that is considered a leader in the clubhouse and showcases outstanding character. Gonzalez was chosen for the honor for his positive attitude, fan interaction and willingness to go the extra mile for others.
