
Utah Royals FC Suffers 1-0 Defeat at Sky Blue FC

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Despite maintaining a majority of the possession, Utah Royals FC (5-3-2, 17 points) suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field on Saturday night.
Royals FC had their best chance at goal in the 28th minute when MF Mandy Laddish sent a pass over the backline to FW Amy Rodriguez who went one-on-one with Sky Blue FC goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan. Rodriguez's shot hit the left post that deflected to the feet of MF Gunny Johnsdottir who's shot went far left as well.
Utah continued to push for goal, totaling nine shots in the night but were unable to break through Sky Blue's defense.
WIth the full time whistle approaching, it looked as if the match would end in a scoreless draw, but in second half stoppage time forward Jennifer Hoy netted one for Sky Blue FC to steal the win in the 92nd minute.
UP NEXT: URFC will return home to Rio Tinto Stadium to take on Portland Thorns FC in its FIFA Women's World Cup Welcome Back match on Friday, July 19 at 8:00 p.m. MT.
GOAL SCORING RUNDOWN:
NJ: Jennifer Hoy (Sarah Killion) 92nd minute: Midfielder Sarah Killion sent the ball into forward Jennifer Hoy at the top of the box who then sent a hard shot off to the right side of goal to give New Jersey the team in the final moments of the match.
NOTES:
- URFC played without DF Becky Sauerbrunn (USA), FW Christen Press (USA) and DF/FW Kelley O'Hara (USA) due to celebrations for their 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup victory. All three players are expected to be back for the next match.
- DF Katie Bowen (NZL), MF Desiree Scott (CAN) and DF Rachel Corsie (SCO) returned to action for Royals FC after missing the last few due to the World Cup. All three were selected by Head Coach Laura Harvey to be in the starting lineup.
- Royals FC went without MF Vero Boquete again due to an injury to her right ankle that she suffered in the last match against Sky Blue FC on June 15.
