Lexington County, S.C. (July 3, 2015) -- The ninth annual battle for the coveted GameFish Cup went to the University of South Carolina Alumni Team, as they defeated the Lexington County Blowfish 7-4 in seven innings on Friday night.

The USC Alumni Team, coached by former Gamecock offensive dynamo Trey Dyson, jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start in front of a Lexington County Baseball Stadium-record 3,067 fans.

Kyle Enders reached on an error in the top of the second, scoring Bryan Triplett to start the scoring for the University of South Carolina Alumni.

The Gamecocks would do the bulk of their offensive lifting in the fourth inning. Enders ripped an RBI double to commence the offensive flood. It continued on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Hunter Privette. All in all, USC scored four runs one hit and three errors.

The Blowfish came within a run of their opposition, stringing together a four-run sixth inning. They loaded the bases for the second time on the night with nobody out. The first time, they came up short. The second time, not so much.

A walk of Danny Edgeworth (Mercer University), a single from Austin Garcia (Bethune Cookman) and a free pass to Bennette Hill (Shelton State) loaded up the bases.

A groundout by Mac McCurdy (Florence-Darlington Tech) plated one, back-to-back knocks from Dalton Duty (University of Central Florida) and Sly Edwards (Charleston Southern) brought in two runs, and an RBI groundout by Tyler Lancaster (Spartanburg Methodist) capped the scoring.

USC would tack on two runs in the top of the seventh to pull away for good.

Canaan Cropper (University of South Carolina), Avery Greer (University of North Georgia), Matt Phillips (Georgia Tech), and Blake Hamilton (University of Georgia) all tossed scoreless frames. Cropper faced the top of the talented alumni lineup and struck out two batters.

The win for USC was the fourth time they won the GameFish Cup in the exhibition's history.

After the game, fans experienced the first of two Independence Fireworks shows at the ballpark. Fans can experience the sights and sounds of the second fireworks show on Saturday, July 4 when the Blowfish host the Florence RedWolves. Kids 12 and under can play catch with the Blowfish before Saturday night's game.
