Jamestown Jammers News Release
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Jose Urena tossed seven shutout innings, and the Jamestown Jammers cruised to their second straight victory as they beat the Auburn Doubledays, 8-1, to maintain their lead in the Pinckney Division.
In his ï¬Âfth start of the season, Urena bafï¬âed the Auburn hitters with his array of ï¬Âve different pitches. The 6-3 righty allowed just two hits and two walks with four strikeouts to earn his second win of the season and keep the Jammers (14-8) a game in front of Mahoning Valley.
Rony Peralta had two hits, two RBI and two runs to pace the Jamestown offense.
Terrence Dayleg roped a single and double, while Austin Barnes, Yefri Perez and Brent Keys each had two singles.
It was Peralta that jump started the offense in the ï¬Ârst inning with his ï¬Ârst single. Then, Dayleg connected for a double to put Jamestown out in front 1-0.
The purple and green used the same recipe in the second inning to plate another run.
Barnes had a single, and Josh Adams roped his second RBI double in as many nights.
With Urena keeping the Doubledays off balance, the Jammers continued to add on to their lead with a pair of runs in the ï¬Âfth. Nestor Castillo led off with a single, but he had only moved to second with two outs. Peralta hit a sinking liner to right to plate Castillo, and he moved to third on a two-base error by Rick Hughes. Keys followed with a RBI single to extend the lead to four.
Peralta connected for a sacriï¬Âce ï¬ây in the seventh inning to continue to stretch out the Jamestown lead, and it brieï¬ây looked like the Jammers would need all those runs as Auburn threatened in the top of the eighth for the ï¬Ârst time all night.
The Doubledays had runners at ï¬Ârst and second with one out when Justin Miller connected for a double to left ï¬Âeld to put the tying run in the on-deck circle. However, reliever Frankie Reed would work out of the jam he created with a pair of ï¬ây outs to keep Auburn at bay.
Jamestown was ï¬Ânally able to put Auburn away for good with three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Barnes and Perez each had RBI singles, and Marquise Cooper worked a bases-loaded walk to account for the offense.
Brian Dupra took the loss for the Doubledays. The Rochester native gave up seven hits and four runs in 4.2 innings with ï¬Âve strikeouts. Offensively, Roberto Perez was the lone Auburn player with multiple hits.
The two teams will now head to Auburn for three more games starting Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
