
United Indoor Football Recognizes Three Greyhounds in 2006 All-Star Awards

Omaha, NE - Three Ohio Valley Greyhound players were recognized on Tuesday by the United Indoor Football League when they announced the results of the 2006 All-Stat balloting. Matt Kohn, the stand-out Hound quarterback and Darrell Dowery, the fast sure-handed Hound wide receiver were honored on the offensive side of the ball. Brock Dodrill, greyhound linebacker was recognized for his stellar play on the defensive side of the ball.
. League awards were voted on by the head coach and the radio announcer of each team, to total twenty ballots for the following awards. Each ballot was scored using a point system. The individual with the most points after all twenty ballots had been totaled, was awarded that respective nomination as the best in the UIF in that category.
Taking the prestigious UIF Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year for 2006 is Ohio Valley Greyhound quarterback, Matt Kohn.. Kohn broke an amazing fourteen (14) UIF records this season. He is now the single season record holder in passing yards per game (189.9), overall passing yards (2,849), pass attempts (470), pass completions (284), total offensive yards per game (218.7), total offensive yards (3,280) and total plays (566). Matt also broke several single game records with the most touchdown responsibility (9), total offensive yards (394), total offensive plays (51), passing yards (314), passing attempts (47), passes completed (26), and was selected as Offensive player of the Week a record four times in the 2006 season. is tied with seven touchdown passes in one game (which he accomplished twice this season). Kohn also tied the UIF record of throwing seven (7) touchdowns in one game which he did twice this year.
In addition, to being selected as the UIF Most Valuable Offensive Player of the Year, Kohn finished First Honorable Mention for League Most Valuable Player to Terrance Bryant of the Sioux Falls Storm who led his team to a 15-0 season this year. Kohn Also received First Honorable Mention for Offensive Rookie of the Year which was awarded to RJ Rollins, a running back for the Omaha Beef.
Kohn is a Michigan native who distinguished himself as the Quarterback for the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds where his still holds 18 passing and offensive records. 2006 was Kohn's first year with the Ohio Valley Greyhounds.
The UIF has also announced that Darrell Dowery has been named Second Runner-Up for 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year to R.J. Rollins of the Omaha Beef who won Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, and Matt Kohn of the Greyhounds who was named as First Runner-Up. Dowery at 5' 11" and 175 pounds attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School in Washington DC where he was three time State Champion and Pig Skin All Metro team. In college Dowery was a member of the Kent State University football team where became second all time leader in receptions and yards. He also holds the record for the most receiving yards in a game with 242 against Central Florida and most catches in a game against Rutgers. Dowery finished his rookie year with the Greyhounds with 64 receptions for a total of 776 yards, 14 touchdown receptions with an average of 64.67 yards per game.
Brock Dodrill, the 6' 2" 236 pound talented linebacker for the Hounds, was named First Runner-Up for UIF Defensive Rookie of the Year second only to John Winchester of the Evansville Bluecats. Dodrill attended Defiance High School where he was named 1st team All-State, 1st Team All-District, and 1st Team All-League Defensive Back of the Year. At the University of Toledo Dodrill played in three bowl games including the 2003 Motor City Bowl against Boston College, and became an All-MAC Candidate. During his Rookie 2006 season with the Greyhounds Dodrill set a new UIF league record with 99 solo tackles and 66 assisted tackles for a total of 132 tackles for the season. In addition, Dodrill had 10 tackles for a loss, an interception, and 3 blocked kicks.
