Minnesota United FC News Release

Minnesota United FC watched their season slip away in Alberta, as FC Edmonton cruised to a comfortable 3-1 victory.

Going into the match United knew they had to win to stay in contention for the Spring Season title. To win you have to be solid in defense, and create chances up-top. They unfortunately flattered to deceive as they found themselves out of the Spring Season picture, only managing a single goal. Edmonton were the better side today, that's all you can really say. United have had a strong season, full of comfortable wins and heroic last-second triumphs, but Edmonton came out with a point to prove, and prove it they did.

Before the match coach Manny Lagos conceded that Edmonton was a team that stays defensively organized, no matter what is thrown at them. This proved to be an astute observation from United's coach as Edmonton dominated possession for most of the match. United had some chances to perhaps tip the balance of play, but could not overcome the early 2-0 deficit.

At 2-0, substitute Miguel Ibarra pulled one back, and at the moment in time United look poised for an equalizer, but this was not United's day as Edmonton regained the 2-goal cushion after Untied defender Justin Davis committed a foul inside the penalty area, giving FC Edmonton the 3-1 lead.

A poor defensive display was ultimately Minnesota's misery, and the resuly in the first half really set the tone for the remaining 45 minutes. In soccer, the impossible has been known to happen, but unfortunately for United, it evaded them.
