Undefeated Fire Takes on Revolution Saturday at Gillette Stadium

CHICAGO, IL (Friday, May 16, 2003) - The Chicago Fire (1-0-3, 6 points) will look to extend its undefeated streak Saturday when it travels to New England to face the Revolution (2-2-2, 8 points) at 5:00 p.m. CT from Gillette Stadium, live on Fox Sports Net. The match will mark the second contest between the clubs, as the squads played to a 1-1 tie on April 13 in the Fire's MLS season opener at North Central College's Cardinal Stadium. The Revolution will be playing in its second game in three days, as the Eastern Conference team tied the Kansas City Wizards 1-1 Wednesday night at Arrowhead Stadium.

Loans and Acquisitions

The Fire today claimed goalkeeper Mike McGinty in the MLS waiver draft. The 31-year old McGinty served as D.C. United's back-up netminder for the 2002 season after spending five successful seasons with the A-League's Richmond Kickers. McGinty becomes the third goalkeeper on the Fire roster behind Zach Thornton and Henry Ring, who was sent on loan to the A-League's Rochester Raging Rhinos but will remain on Chicago's 24-man roster. The Fire has also loaned Nick Walls to the Milwaukee Wave United (A-League) and the midfielder is expected to make his debut tonight as the Wave hosts the Minnesota Thunder at 8:00 p.m. CT in its home opener at Uihlein Soccer Park.

Gray, Mapp Impressive in U.S.'s 3-1 Win Over Mexico

All five of the Chicago Fire's U.S. Under-23 National Team representatives did their part to spur the American side to a 3-1 victory over the Mexico U-23s at Estadio Tres de Marzo in Guadalajara, Mexico on Wednesday night. Fire defender/midfielder Kelly Gray, midfielders DaMarcus Beasley and Logan Pause and forward Nate Jaqua all started the heated contest, and Gray got things going early for the Americans by heading home a Landon Donovan corner kick in the 11th minute to give the U.S. a 1-0 advantage. Midfielder Justin Mapp came in as a second-half sub for Beasley in the 70th minute and the move would benefit the Americans five minutes later, as the 18-year-old assisted on Alecko Eskandarian's game-winner.

Quick Hits vs. New England

* The Fire holds a 5-4-4 record vs. the Revolution in the all-time series with a 3-2-1 record @ Foxboro.

* The Fire and the Revolution met seven times in 2002 (regular season and playoffs combined) with the Fire taking both regular season match-ups by a combined score of 5-1 at Gillette Stadium.

* The Revs exacted revenge with a pair of shutouts vs. the Fire in the post-season - both at New England -- and eliminating Chicago from the MLS Cup playoffs.

* Forward Ante Razov is the Fire's leading scorer vs. the Revs with 5g, 2a for 12 point. Razov tallied his second career hat trick last season vs. New England in a 3-1 victory on May 19 at Gillette Stadium.
