Keene Swamp Bats News Release

NORTH ADAMS - Defensive miscues and lack of hits with runners in scoring position doomed the SwampBats (7-2) as they fell to the North Adams SteepleCats (6-4) 8-5.

Andrew O'Brien out of Riverside Community College got his first start of the season and it did not go well. Through the first three innings O'Brien did not allow a hit and the one run that across for the SteepleCats was unearned.

Then the fourth inning happened.

O'Brien allowed two singles to start off the inning and from there it sputtered out of control. It looked as if he was going to limit the damage as two runs came across on fielder's choices in which two outs were recorded. Then in the next six at-bats he allowed one walk, three singles, hit two batters, and two errors were committed. In total, O'Brien faced 10 batters in the inning a six runs were scored.

The 'Bats offense was not much better. They out hit the SteepleCats ten to six but left six runners in scoring position. Ryan Costello (Central Connecticut State) and Jack Morock (Iowa Western) were both tagged out trying to score.

After O'Brien's day was done, Tommy Doyle (Virginia), Carmen Giampetruzzi (Boston Col), and Jamal Wade (Maryland) came in relief. Combined they tossed four innings, gave two hits, one earned run, and struck out three on 18 batters faced.

The SwampBats showed some fight in the ninth inning when Lee University's Jordan Howard hit a 3-run home run to make it an 8-5 SteepleCats lead but that would be it.

It was SwampBats first road loss of the season. They have the day off on Monday but return on Tuesday, June 21 to Alumni field to take on the Upper Valley Nighthawks (4-5). Game time 6:30 p.m.

The game can heard live on NECBL Broadcast Network and FM 104.1, AM 1220 ESPN Keene.
