
UC Riverside Outfielder/Infielder Returns to Honkers

(Rochester, Minn.)- The Rochester Honkers announced today that UC Riverside standout outfielder/infielder, Mark Contreras, will return to the team for the 2016 season. The 6-foot, 183-pound junior from Moreno Valley, California, is the second returning member of the 2015 squad.
Contreras finished the 2015 Honker season hitting .275 with 17 RBI's and five home runs. He appeared in 40 games, starting 37 while playing 30 games in the outfield and nine at first base, committing only two errors on the season.
At UC Riverside, Contreras completed his sophomore season hitting .282 with 10 doubles and 23 RBIs. He recorded 11 multi-hit games including three games with three hits, and had a team-best 11 game hitting streak.
As a freshman, Contreras saw limited action, appearing in 19 games and getting five starts. In his 27 total at bats, Contreras hit .148 with 2 RBIs and was 4-4 in stolen bases.
Contreras graduated from Canyon Springs HS, where his team won the Inland Empire Championship all four years. He was awarded Defensive Player MVP in 2010, was an All-League First Team selection in 2011 and 2012 as a third baseman and was named First Team All-League as a short stop in 2013. All four years in high school, he was recognized for having the highest GPA for student athletes.
