U.S. Women's National Team to Play at Children's Mercy Park on September 3

The U.S. Women's National Team, winners of four FIFA World Cups and four Olympic Games, will return to Kansas City to play Nigeria at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Children's Mercy Park, U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday. The match will be nationally televised on FOX with coverage beginning at 12 p.m. CT.
Tickets for the match will go on sale at 9 a.m. CT on Monday, Aug. 1 via USsoccer.com. Sporting KC Season Ticket Members will have access to a pre-sale beginning at 9 a.m. CT on Friday, July 29 and U.S. Soccer Insiders, as well as Visa cardholders, may also take advantage of pre-sale opportunities. Soccer supporters in Kansas City can sign up now to be notified when tickets go on sale.
"First, I'm excited to play against Nigeria. They have some very talented players who will present a lot of different problems for us to solve on both sides of the ball," said U.S. Women's National Team head coach Vlatko Andonovski. "Secondly, of course we're looking forward to bringing the team back to one of the best soccer cities and best soccer stadiums in the United States in Kansas City."
Andonovski, a Kansas City resident and graduate of Park University, won two NWSL championships in KC during his five seasons as head coach of FC Kansas City from 2013-2017 in addition to being a past player and coach for the Kansas City Comets.
Children's Mercy Park, the world-class home of Sporting Kansas City (MLS) and the Kansas City Current (NWSL), will host the first U.S. Women's National Team home match after the back-to-back World Cup champions qualified for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup last week. The U.S. are currently in the semifinals of the 2022 Concacaf W Championship in Mexico in pursuit of a berth in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The top-ranked U.S. Women's National Team will take on 11-time African champions Nigeria, ranked No. 39 in the world. Led by American head coach Randy Waldrum, the Super Falcons have participated in all eight FIFA Women's World Cups and will play for a berth in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup on Thursday when they take on Cameroon in the 2022 African Women's Cup of Nations quarterfinals.
The United States is 6-0-0 all-time against Nigeria with four of the victories coming in World Cup competition and one at the 2000 Olympics. The teams last played on June 16, 2021 in the first-ever match at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas as the U.S. won 2-0.
Kansas City, recently announced as a host city for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has hosted the USWNT nine times since the team's inaugural visit in 1999. The U.S. Women's National Team has a 5-0-4 record in KC and a 3-0-2 record in five previous matches at Children's Mercy Park, most recently playing South Korea in front of a sold-out crowd on Oct. 21, 2021.
Children's Mercy Park also hosted the U.S. Men's National Team last month for an international friendly against Uruguay. The U.S. Men's and Women's National Teams are 15-0-6 in Kansas City and 11-0-4 at the state-of-the-art stadium.
