Atlanta United FC News Release

ATLANTA - Atlanta United defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 Wednesday evening in front of 42,509 people at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Ronaldo Cisneros led the front line for Atlanta and scored a first-half brace.

Atlanta struck early through Cisneros, taking the lead in the eighth minute. Thiago Almada found the run of the Mexican with a weighted ball through the Salt Lake midfield. A quick turn from Cisneros sent defender Erik Holt the wrong way, giving the forward enough time to compose himself and finish with his left foot.

Cisneros doubled the host's advantage in the 33rd minute. Winning the ball high up the pitch with an interception, Rossetto's first touch fell to the feet of Cisneros. The 25-year-old created an opening with one touch before finding the back of the net from the 18-yard line. Cisneros' strike is his sixth goal of the season. It was Rossetto's first assist for Atlanta United.

Salt Lake cut the deficit to one goal in the 37th minute with a goal from Johan Kappelhof. Justin Meram sent a left-footed cross into Atlanta's six-yard box from the right flank, which the Dutch defender headed past Rocco Ríos Novo to pull one back for the visitors.

The attacking players of Atlanta continued to create chances in the second half, including Thiago Almada, who hit the post with a shot in the 64th minute. Salt Lake generated pressure late in the second half, resulting in chances like a Sergio Córdova shot saved by Ríos Novo and a set-piece opportunity in the dying minutes of the match but the Atlanta defense stood strong.

Atlanta (6-8-5, 23 points) finishes its three-match homestand at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against Orlando City SC on Sunday, July 17 (3:00 p.m., ABC, ESPN Deportes, Sports Radio 92-9 The Game, La Mejor).
