
U.S. Open Preview: Carolina RailHawks vs. Chivas USA

North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, NC - The Carolina RailHawks will face MLS's Chivas USA on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at WakeMed Soccer Park for the Fourth Round of the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The winner of the match will advance to the Quarterfinals of the tournament. The RailHawks won their Third Round match against LA Galaxy coming from behind to upset the MLS Defending Champions 2-1. Chivas USA defeated PDL side Ventura County Fusion 1-0 to advance to the Fourth Round.
The RailHawks will look to extend their winning streak to four games in front of an energetic, packed-house at WakeMed Soccer Park. The RailHawks are unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions, scoring 11 goals and conceded just 3 in four matches. MLS's Chivas USA arrived to the Triangle boasting a lineup including US National Team member Juan Agudelo, Colombian International striker Juan Pablo Angel, and MLS veterans Alejandro Moreno and Dan Kennedy.
Kickoff for the match will be at 7:00 PM and the match will be televised live on WRAL2, digital channel 106 on Time Warner Cable and over the air on WRAL 5.2, streamed online at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com and www.WRAL.com . LAST MATCH
The RailHawks hosted Chivas USA for an exhibition match in the RailHawks Inaugural Season in 2007. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for the RailHawks in what was the team's first ever win. Kupono Low, current captain of the RailHawks, played in the match.
LAST TIME OUT
Following the thrilling 2-1 victory over LA Galaxy on May 29th, the RailHawks returned to league action against NASL leading Puerto Rico Islanders at WakeMed Soccer Park. Despite suffering the ejection of Gale Agbossoumonde in the first half, the team earned their first win in NASL play. An own goal by Puerto Rico put the RailHawks ahead. Jay Needham equalized the match for the Islanders. In the 88th minute Ty Shipalane scored the game-winning goal on an assist by goalkeeper Ray Burse. Shipalane, who was decisive in the RailHawks come from behind win against LA Galaxy, proved again to be a key substitution for the team.
NEXT GAME
The RailHawks will play again at WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday June 9th when they host Minnesota Stars FC. The RailHawks have played twice this year against the Stars FC in Minnesota. The teams opened the NASL season with the Champions Challenge that ended with a 0-0 draw. The last game, despite solid play by the RailHawks, the Stars FC won the match 2-1.
