U.S. Nat'l U18 Team Tipped by Sioux City, 2-1

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Brandon Saad (Gibsonia, Pa.) scored the only goal for the U.S. National Under-18 Team, which was edged by the Sioux City Musketeers, 2-1, here tonight.

After the first period went scoreless, Saad streaked into the Sioux City zone, fired a shot on netminder Will Yanakeff, collected his own rebound and slid the puck inside the right post at 7:32 of the second stanza to put the U.S. ahead 1-0. Dan Ford tied the score for the Musketeers after Ryan Kesti's shot took a bounce off the boards from behind the net and came out in front to Ford who slammed it home at 12:21. Sioux City took a 2-1 lead at 16:05 when Mitch Zion skated around the U.S. defense and beat netminder Andy Iles (Ithaca, N.Y.) with a shot from point-blank range.

Despite a back-and-forth third period in which Team USA poured 13 shots on net, neither team was able to light the lamp allowing Sioux City to escape with a 2-1 victory.

Iles made 15 saves on the night.

The U.S. National Under-18 Team will hit the road for its next game, which comes Friday (Oct. 23) when it takes on Utica College at 7 p.m. EDT.
