Countdown To Puck Drop: Phantoms At Des Moines

Youngstown Phantoms News Release
The Youngstown Phantoms play the finale of a four-game road swing this evening in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale, site of the first win in franchise history one week ago. Last Saturday's 5-4 Phantoms triumph, facilitated by a three-goal first period, was part one of a two-win road weekend that concluded the next afternoon in Chicago.
The Phantoms (2-1-1, T-3rd in East) came up on the short end of a barn-burning 7-6 Lincoln victory last night at the Ice Box, their first setback of any kind since Opening Night Oct. 3. However, by getting to overtime, Youngstown increased its current road unbeaten streak to three games. Brian Dowd and Taylor Holstrom were the scoring stars in Lincoln, as each tallied twice.
Des Moines (1-3-0, T-6th in West) has had a long time to think about Youngstown's win in their building seven days ago; the Buccaneers haven't taken the ice for a game since.
PHANTOM PHACTS
- Despite last night's loss, the Phantoms put up a season-high six goals. Youngstown is now averaging an impressive 4.5 goals per game after dropping 16 on the opposition in the last three contests.
- Youngstown's recent successes on the road can be largely attributed to its prolific opening-period attack. The boys in purple, orange and black have now ripped 10 first-frame goals into the twine after scoring four in last night's opening 20 minutes to erase a 3-1 Lincoln lead.
- With Ryan Jasinsky and Brian Dowd joining the goal-scoring parade in Lincoln, Youngstown now boasts 12 skaters with at least one red light to their credit. Six of those 12, Holstrom (3), Dowd (2), Brett Gensler (2), Stuart Higgins (2), Andrew Lamont (2) and Jefferson Dahl (2) have at least a pair.
- As a product of a heated multi-player scuffle in yesterday evening's first period, the Phantoms racked up 71 penalty minutes against Lincoln. Youngstown's early-season infraction average is 34.5 minutes.
BUCCANEER BITS
- T.J. Tynan (4 goals) and Ryan Walters (3), both of whom scored last Saturday against Youngstown, are among the Buccaneers' primary offensive threats. H.T. Lenz leads the way among the Des Moines forwards with four assists and 11 penalty minutes
- Buccaneers goalie Charles Williams almost sparked a home-team comeback when he stopped 21 of 22 Youngstown shots in relief a week ago. The Phantoms led 4-2 when starter Eric Milahik was removed from the Des Moines net in favor of Williams, who allowed only Jefferson Dahl's shorthanded breakaway goal in 33 minutes and 26 seconds of ice time.
- The Buccaneers feature an offensive backline through four games, paced by Austin Coldwell's two points (G, A). Both he and fellow D-man Connor Frick found the twine in Des Moines' 5-4 loss to the Phantoms; they are two of five Bucs blueliners with at least a point.
