
U.S. National Under-18 Team Travels Out West to Play Top NAHL Team

THIS WEEK: After a well-deserved weekend off, the U.S. National Under-18 Team travels to Bozeman, Mont., to take on the Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League's West Division. Bozeman (20-3-0) is currently in first place in the west and riding a 20 game winning streak.
U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES: John Hynes is in his third season with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Hynes has spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Massachuttes Lowell and the University of Wisconsin. He was also an assistant coach at Boston University and with the NTDP. Hynes has amassed a career record with the NTDP of 77-41-7.
U.S. HEAD COACH JOHN HYNES: "It will be good for us to play someone new, someone we don't know, especially a team as hot as Bozeman is right now. Our preparation for this weekend will be key, looking ahead to the world tournament in April this trip will be another good experience for our guys ."

âTIS THE SEASON: USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in conjunction with the United States Marine Core are hosting a Toys For Tots Drive at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. Collection will begin on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at the Cube when the U.S. National Under-17 Team hosts the Cleveland Barons at 7 p.m.
U P N E X T : Following the weekend in Bozeman, Team USA will travel to Williams (Mass.) College on Friday night (Dec. 9), then to the University of Vermont on Saturday (Dec. 10) to take on the Catamounts of the Hockey East Conference at 7 p.m.
LAST WEEKEND: On Wednesday (Nov. 23) night, the U.S. National Under-18 Team traveled through Michigan's first winter storm to Traverse City (Mich.) to take on the North Stars of the NAHL. Despite the rough ride up, Team USA came out flying and put away the North Stars, 5-1. A game summary from the match-up is below.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. -- After a seven hour bus ride through Michigan's first snow storm, the U.S. National Under-18 Team defeated Traverse City 5-1 at the Centre Ice Arena. Luke Popko (Skillman, N.J.) got the scoring started for Team USA, 7:32 into the first period on a play from Chris Atkinson (Sparta, N.J.) and Rhett Rakhshani (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Sixteen seconds later in the first frame defenseman Kevin Montgomery (Rochester, N.Y.) gave Team USA a 2-0 lead . Steve Sperry (Southlake, Texas) notched his third goal of the season to stretch the U.S. lead to three. At the 10:30 mark of the second period, the U.S. National Under-18 Team tallied a powerplay goal by Michael Carman (Apple Valley, Minn.) from Atkinson and Patrick Kane (Buffalo, N.Y.). Traverse City opened the scoring in the third period to cut the USA lead to 4-1. Team USA struck back 37 seconds later on a goal from Atkinson, his third point (1-2) of the night. Joe Palmer (Yorkville, N.Y.) made 29 saves in goal for Team USA to earn his eleventh win of the season.
NTDP ALUMNI UPDATE: Miami (Ohio) University freshamn forward Nathan Davis (Rocky River, Ohio) recorded a hat trick (3-1) and an assist to lead the first place RedHawks past Bowling Green in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action on Friday (Nov. 25) night ... Last weekend (Nov. 25-26) University of Minnesota freshman Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis.) notched five points (2-3) in two games during the College Hockey Showcase, including two goals and one assist against the top ranked Michigan Wolverines.
