Blizzard Plays a Nail Biter Versus the Jets
November 29, 2005 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Alexandria Blizzard News Release
Saturday's game pitted the Fargo-Moorhead Jets at the Runestone vs. the Alexandria Blizzard.
All throughout the game both teams played their hearts out with beautiful passing and by playing tight defense. This game was filled with intense hits, one of the more physical games a fan will probably see all season.
Dan Swanson (assisted by Dustin Postell and Chris Johnson) started out the game with a powerplay goal. The Blizzard held a one goal lead until the third period when Paul Henderson (assisted by Sam Kelly and Austun Tavis) made it a two goal lead with a blistering slapshot from the point. The lead would not last too long though as Fargo-Moorhead's Phil Fox broke away shorthanded and scored an unassisted goal, then it was a penalty shot by the Jets' Kai Kantola a few minutes later that was a pivotal goal that forced the game into overtime on a controversial penalty call on the Blizzard's Bobby Kuehl.
With no scoring in the overtime, the Jets and the Blizzard went to a shootout. The Jets' O'Brien and the Blizzard's Joe Calvi both blanked the first four shooters they faced then it was the Jets' Chris Connolly who faked out Calvi to score the eventual game winning shootout goal. The Jets won 3-2.
