BLAINE, Minn. - The U.S. National Under-17 Team opened the 2005 NAHL Showcase with a strong offensive performance, beating the Billings Bulls from the west division of the NAHL.

Ryan Hayes (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored 23 seconds into the game to give Team USA a quick 1-0 lead. Defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk (New Rochelle, N.Y.) followed with two power play goals. Billings did not quick after the quick USA start, scoring twice to end the first period.

Defenseman Colby Cohen (Radnor, Pa.) continued the scoring on the power play for Team USA to open the second period. Only 17 seconds later, Colin Wilson (Greenwich, N.Y.) beat Bulls goaltender Aaron Damjanovich on the first shot he faced as Billings changed goaltenders after the Cohen power play goal. Ryan Hayes scored his second goal of the night on a short handed breakaway to give Team USA a four goal lead.

Josh Unice (Toledo, Ohio) earned his second win of the season by stopping 22 of 24 Billings shots. "Tonight was a great start to a long week," said Head Coach Ron Rolston. "We came out flying tonight and put Billings on their heels fast."
