U.S. National Team News Release

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The U.S. National Under-17 team posted a 6-3 win over the Traverse City North Stars at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube on Friday night (Oct. 5). Six different USA players scored in the win as the U.S. squad improved to 3-2 overall.

"I felt that our team came out and played a solid game," said head coach Ron Rolston. "We were able to score the first goal of the game and that set the tempo for our team. This was a tough game but our team responded to the challenge."

It took just 1:46 into the contest for Team USA to take an early 1-0 lead. Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.) threaded a pass to Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.) in the neutral zone. Ryan slipped past the defense and fired a shot that beat North Stars netminder Brandon Stephenson for his third goal of the season.

Back-to-back goals by Morin and Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) in a span of 53 seconds gave Team USA the early 3-0 advantage. Morin took a feed from Ryan and fired a one-timer for his fifth goal of the campaign at 14:54. Shore poked a rebound past Stephenson for his third goal of the season at the 15:47 mark.

With 54 second left in the opening stanza, Traverse City's Eric McLintock cut the deficit to 3-1 with a power-play marker.

Team USA regained its three-goal advantage with a power-play tally at the 7:51 mark of the middle period. Kevin Lynch (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) tipped a shot from defenseman Bjorn Krupp (Atlanta, Ga.) into the net for his second goal of the season.

A Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.) one timer helped Team USA extend its lead to 5-1, just 3:34 into the final stanza. Back-to-back goals by the North Stars Sebastien Kimmel and Matt Hughes helped Traverse City climb back to within two, at 5-3. However, Team USA would respond right back just 13 after the Hughes goal with a Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) tally on a quick shot in front of the Traverse City net for the final goal of the game and the 6-3 victory.

Team USA's Brandon Maxwell (Winter Park, Fla.) earned the win in net, stopping 25 shots. Brandon Stephenson took the loss with 21 saves.

The U.S. National Under-17 team returns to action next weekend (Oct. 12-13) when they host the Mahoning Valley Phantoms at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube.
