Traverse City North Stars News Release
ANN ARBOR - What the U.S. National Team Development Program's Under-17 team took 16 minutes to build, the Traverse City North Stars could not overcome in the remaining 44 on Friday night at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, as the visiting Stars were tagged with a 6-3 setback - their first regulation loss of the young 2007-08 campaign.
The U-17s raced to a 3-0 advantage with a goal just 1:46 into the affair and two more within 53 seconds of each other late in the first. Eric McLintock got the North Stars on the board with :54 left before the first intermission, but Team USA extended its lead to 5-1 by scoring the only goal of the second period and the next 3:34 into the final stanza.
Sabastion Kimmel pared TC's deficit to 5-2 a mere 16 seconds later, and Matt Hughes made it a two-goal spread at 14:08, but Jerry D'Amigo made it a 6-3 final by answering Hughes' tally with one of his own directly off the next faceoff - 13 seconds later.
Traverse City, which outshot the U-17s by a 28-27 margin, got assists from Hughes and Harrison Niemann on McLintock's goal, from Nate Urbaniak and Marc Thompson on Kimmel's marker, and McLintock and Niemann on Hughes' fifth of the year.
Stars goalkeep Brandon Stephenson made 21 saves in 27 chances, while Brandon Maxwell went 25-for-28 for USA (7-3-1).
The North Stars (3-1-3) return to Centre ICE arena to welcome in Marquette for a Saturday evening affair (7:05 p.m.) and a rare Sunday matinee (1:05 p.m.). All games can be seen via Internet pay-per-view by visiting b2now.com or linking to the web cast at traversecitynorthstars.com.
