Columbus Crew SC News Release
CHICAGO (Aug. 2, 2013) - The U.S. Men's National Team will be playing in front of a capacity crowd when it faces Mexico on Sept. 10 in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier at Columbus Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
The demand for tickets for the match was unprecedented in U.S. Soccer history, with more than twice as many requests than could be accommodated. The seating capacity for Columbus Crew Stadium is slightly more than 24,000.
The sell-out crowd will be energized by the presence of the largest organized supporters section in U.S. Soccer history. More than 9,000 members will occupy 27 sections, which is more than three times larger than any group of organized supporters for a previous match.
There are still a limited number of Ultimate Fan Tickets, Travel Packages (with tickets included) and VIP Experiences available for purchase while supplies last. Each of these opportunities includes premium seats. For more information, call 312-528-1255 or email supporters@ussoccer.org.
"It's absolutely huge that the stadium is sold out for USA-Mexico," said U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. "The atmosphere for our game against Jamaica last year was one of the best I have ever seen, and we really need that support when we play our biggest rival. To have more than 9,000 organized supporters there is awesome. We have been working hard for two years to build a great relationship with the fans, and it's only getting bigger."
The match kicks off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN, WatchESPN and UniMas. Fans can also follow the match live online via ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer.
For those in the Columbus area, U.S. Soccer's Headquarters will be at Easton Town Center starting on Friday, Sept. 6. The night before the match on Monday, Sept. 9, U.S. Soccer will host a Pep Rally with U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann and select players at The Bluestone. More details will be announced on ussoccer.com.
With four games remaining in World Cup Qualifying, the USA leads the Hexagonal with a 4-1-1 record and 13 points, followed by Costa Rica (3-1-2, 11 points) and Mexico (1-0-5, 8 points). The top three CONCACAF teams automatically qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the fourth-place team will face New Zealand in a playoff to determine the final spot.
The USA recently won its fifth CONCACAF Gold Cup crown after defeating Panama 1-0 on July 28 at Soldier Field in Chicago. The U.S. also extended its record winning streak to 11 games and improved to 12-2-2 on the year.
The next match for the U.S. is a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday, Aug. 14 in Sarajevo. Kickoff at Asim Ferhatovi=C4=87 Hase Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. local (2:30 p.m. ET). The match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and WatchESPN. Fans can also follow the match live on ussoccer.com's MatchTracker and on Twitter @ussoccer.
The U.S. will then face Costa Rica in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier on Sept. 6 at Estadio Nacional in San Jose, Costa Rica. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on beIN SPORT.
