FORT MYERS, Fla. - Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Tyler Jay was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for May 30 to June 5 as announced by the League offices earlier today.
Jay, 22, made one start on May 31 and hurled eight shutout innings. Allowing just two hits, Jay faced just one over the minimum while throwing 98 pitches, 73 for strikes, and racking up 11 strikeouts in a 4-0 win for the Miracle over the St. Lucie Mets. The eight innings and 11 punch outs are both individual season-highs for the Miracle this season.
The first round selection and sixth overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2015, Jay is 4-4 with a 2.44 earned run average over nine starts in his first year as a member of the rotation. Tyler has totaled 55 strikeouts with only 14 walks in 51.2 innings. The league is hitting just .216 against Jay.
