Texas Tycoons News Release
Dallas, TX - Texas Tycoons drop successive games for the first time this season, 166-163 in Houston and 116-107 in Arkansas but rebound to defeat Monterrey at home 122-111.
Straight off two road wins in Mexico over the weekend, the Tycoons continued their four game swing back on up through Texas and across the frozen highways of the state out to Arkansas Wednesday and Friday evenings. The team was sluggish in their Wednesday night match up with the Houston Undertakers but took a four point lead into the final seconds. Jai Pradia (6'6''-F-79, college: Pittsburg St.) handled a pass at mid-court and heaved the forty-four foot shot as time expired, the building erupted as Praida connected from beyond half-court for a four point play and forced overtime in Houston. By rule in the ABA, a shot made beyond the half court line is awarded four points and it was just what Houston needed to force an extra period. The Undertakers rode the momentum and the home crowd into the extra frame to halt the Tycoons winning streak at 8 games, Houston prevails in a wild one 166-163.
Their wasn't much time for disappointment for Texas as the Arkansas RiverCatz awaited them in Arkansas two nights later at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Battling inclement weather and the back end of a long road trip Texas was looking to get well against a RiverCatz squad that was determined to get even for the road defeat they had against Texas earlier this season in Dallas. For Arkansas; Kareem Reid (5'10''-G-75, agency: Baseline Sports, college: Arkansas) gave Texas everything they wanted and more connecting on five 3 pointers en route to his 39 points and what was a 2 point game in the final two minutes resulted in a home win for Arkansas 116-107 as Texas fouled late to prolong the game. Friday night's contest would mark the first two game losing streak for the Tycoons.
Their 5th game in less than a week would be played out 24 hours later back in Dallas as Texas would be looking for a little home cooking and to get back to their winning ways. Asked before the game about the 2-2 road trip that included two games in Mexico followed by road games in Houston and Arkansas, Head Coach Chris Terrell said "We may be a little tired and are legs are a little weary but good teams find ways to win on the road and I'm disappointed that we couldn't continue the streak. Although we face a tough Veneno team tonight, we're back home in Dallas and the crowd will give us the lift we need to finish this tough stretch on a high note." Jerome Rogers (5'10''-G-81, college: N.Texas) led 5 players in double figures with his 29 and newly acquired Tyrone Rayson was solid in his debut with 9 points and 8 rebounds, 6 offensive en route to the home win, Texas Tycoons over the Monterrey Veneno-Poison 122-111.
The Texas Tycoons (9-3) will now get a much needed break in the schedule as they await Waco in Dallas Saturday night at Mountain View College. Tickets are available at the door for as little as $5.00 or by calling the Tycoon's box office at 214-749-0134.
