Chicago Rockstars Fall to River Hawks

December 3, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Chicago Rockstars News Release

Snow wasn't the only thing to blanket Chicago this weekend. The Rockstars fell to a blizzard of threes by the visiting Quad City River Hawks. Although they trailed for much of the game, by as much as 18 in the fourth quarter, the Rockstars went on a very late run to make the game close, with a final score of 112-104.

Sherrick Simpson led the Rockstars with 23 points, but it was the big men who dominated the game. Phil Taylor, Corey Gupton and Marcus Liberty all had double digit point totals. Taylor had 14, Gupton had 13 and LIberty had 10.

The Rockstars frustration seemed to culminate in the third quarter when confusion on the part of the officials resulted in a whistle in the middle of a shot that negated a basket by Phil Taylor. A lengthy conference stalled the game for almost five minutes, and the Rockstars eventually were awarded possession, but not the basket. Both coaches were upset by the call but the Rockstars Kenny Williams was better able to control his anger than the River Hawks coach, who received a technical foul for his tirade against the officials.
