Lehigh Valley Steelhawks News Release
Bethlehem, PA: In release made today, the league office of the Indoor Football League announced that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks Linebacker/Running Back Matt Cohen was named to the All-IFL First Team as it's Iron Man. The league also announced that Defensive Back Marvin Johnson was named to the Second Team All-IFL Team.
Cohen, a Lehigh University product, played in all three phacets of the game for the Steelhawks. Defesively, Cohen set himself apart as the starting Mack Linebacker, recording 79 total tackles, two sacks, and an interception. He also played valiantly on Special Teams, even recording a two point conversion catch of a fake extra point during a tight game versus the Cedar Rapids Titans. Then, when Steelhawks starting Running back Ryan Leafey was forced to miss a few games, Cohen stepped into a role he hadn't played since high school, and ran for 117 yards on 16 carries and caught three passes for 19 yards. His 50 yard rushing performance to go along with a touchdown helped spur the Steelhawks to their third victory over the Reading Express.
Johnson was named to the All-IFL Second Team after a strong Rookie season where he finished sixth in the league in total tackles with 100. The University of Oregon product was the commander of the Steelhawks Defense that was among the top unit all season in the IFL. The safety hauled in seven interceptions, had seven pass breakups, three forced fumbles, recorded two sacks, and brought back a blocked field goal for a touchdown in the team's 2012 season opener in Chicago. Johnson was named IFL Defensive Player of the Week in Week Two of the regular season. His strong season has him on the ballots for both Defensive Player of the Year, and Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Fans can watch Cohen and Johnson this weekend, as they take on the Sioux Falls Storm in the first round of the IFL Playoffs. Roosevelt's 21st will host a playoff viewing party at their Allentown location located at 1328 W. Tilghman Street. There will be a Happy Hour from 6-8 p.m. with kickoff set for 8:05 p.m.
