Chicago Steel News Release
GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Steel forwards Brendan Brisson and Matthew Coronato were named to the 2020 All-USHL Rookie Teams, the United States Hockey League announced Friday. Brisson, who was recently awarded the USHL Rookie of the Year and named to the All-USHL First Team, was awarded First-Team honors while Coronato was named to the Second Team.
"As a staff we are excited to have both Brendan and Matthew recognized by the league for their efforts this season." Said Steel Head Coach Brock Sheahan. "They both took tremendous steps on and off the ice in their development and were impact players for us in their first full years in the league. Again, these awards speak to the work that Brendan, Matthew and the rest of their teammates put in every day as members of the Chicago Steel."
Brisson, a University of Michigan commit, led league rookies and ranked second in the USHL in scoring with 59 points (24G, 35A) in 45 games played, including a hat trick and a helper in a 9-5 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms on Dec. 28.
The Manhattan Beach, Calif., native was twice named the USHL forward of the week during the 2019-20 campaign (Nov. 19, 2019 & Jan. 22, 2020) and posted 18 multi-point outings this season.
Coronato, a native of Huntington, N.Y., totaled 40 points (18G, 22A) over 45 games during the 2019-20 campaign, the fourth-most among USHL rookies. The Harvard University-bound forward reached the scoresheet in a season-best nine consecutive games (7G, 7A) from Feb. 14-March 7.
The 5-foot-9, 177-pound forward tallied four multi-goal outings this year with a season-best three point game (2G, 1A) on Feb. 16 in a 10-3 win over the US National Team Development Program.
Brisson, who was ranked 20th on NHL Central Scouting's final North American skaters list, becomes the seventh player in Chicago Steel franchise history to be named to the USHL All-Rookie First Team (Oskar Autio, Robert Mastrosimone - 2018; Dennis Gilbert - 2015; Robby Jackson - 2014; Brett Kostolansky - 2009; Brian O'Neill - 2008).
The Steel were awarded the 2020 Anderson Cup as the regular-season champions of the United States Hockey League after posting a 41-7-1-0 (83 pts) record, a franchise-best for wins and points in a season. Chicago set league records with an .847 win percentage and an average of 4.94 goals per game prior to the cancellation of the regular season and Clark Cup Playoffs on March 18.
Season tickets are available now for the 2020-2021 season at Fox Valley Ice Arena starting at just 5 games for $45. Full season tickets are available starting at just $8 per game. In addition to affordable ticket prices, the Steel offer free parking, themed promotions and family-friendly entertainment.
