Two Sharks Earn 2nd Team All-NAL Defensive Honors

JACKSONVILLE - With the NAL Championship set to take place this Saturday, award season is upon us. The official All-NAL Second Team was announced today. The #1 ranked Jacksonville Sharks feature two defensive players that made the All-NAL Second Teamt. Defensive Back Markus Smith and Defensive Lineman Jonathan Taylor on both earn their first All-NAL honors.

In his second year with the Sharks, Defensive Back Markus Smith had a breakout season. Smith was the Sharks third leading tackler with 50.0 tackles this year and was tied for second on the team in interceptions with eight. The Sharks DB finished the year off strong coming up with four interceptions in the final two games of the season including a three-interception game in the regular-season-finale against the Orlando Predators (tied for a team record). Smith also is currently on a three-game streak with a pick-six including one in the playoffs against the Columbus Lions.

Nose Guard Jonathan Taylor earns All-NAL Second Team defensive honors in his first year in the NAL. Taylor was a key part of the dominant defensive line for the Sharks this year totaling six sacks and eight tackles for a loss. The rookie's biggest game came in week 8 against the Orlando Predators with a two-sack game including a safety on his second sack of the game.

The National Arena League expects to announce it's All-NAL First Team tomorrow with other league awards to be announced before the championship game this Saturday in Jacksonville, FL at the Veterans Memorial Arena at 7pm.
