Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 17, 2003) â The Long Island Ducks dropped a 4-2 decision to the Atlantic City Surf tonight before a sellout crowd of 6,166 at Citibank Park. The loss was the third in the past four games for the Ducks (22-21) and drops the team into third place in the Atlantic League's North Division, four games behind the first place Nashua Pride.
Atlantic City starter Andy High (4-3) baffled Ducks batters all night, limiting the flock to just four hits and one earned run in seven innings pitched. The Ducks scored a run in the bottom of the eighth to climb to within 3-2, but Surf outfielder Brody Jackson led off the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run to left off of Ducks reliever Pedro Borbon, Jr., concluding the scoring. Surf closer Randi Mallard came on in the bottom of the ninth to shut the door on Long Island and record his league-leading twelfth save.
Ducks starter Denny Harriger (2-5) was charged with the loss, allowing three earned runs and 12 hits in seven and one-third innings. Five Surf batters had multiple hits in the game and designated hitter Juan "The Large Human" Thomas blasted his third home run of the season to lead Atlantic City offensively.
Wednesday night, the Ducks look to avenge tonight's defeat, as the Atlantic City Surf visit Citibank Park for the second of a three-game series. For Long Island, RHP Bobby Rodgers (1-1) takes the mound and will be opposed by Surf RHP Brian Williams (1-2). Game time is 7:05 p.m., with gates opening at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 1-888-332-5600, by visiting the Citibank Park Box Office or by logging on to www.liducks.com and clicking on the tickets icon.
